What is an NLC?

A Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC) is a lipid-based carrier system designed to incorporate lipophilic actives within a structured lipid matrix so they can be dispersed and evaluated in aqueous formulations.

Frequently asked questions

01
Why are lipophilic actives difficult to use in water-based formulations?
Lipophilic actives have limited compatibility with water, which can create formulation challenges related to dispersion, physical stability and incorporation into the intended product format.
02
What does BioGntx evaluate?
BioGntx develops R&D-scale prototypes and evaluates formulation-specific characteristics such as aqueous dispersion, physical stability, particle characteristics and compatibility with the intended product format. These results help determine whether further development is appropriate.
03
How is an NLC different from a conventional emulsion or other lipid-delivery systems?
NLCs use a structured matrix of solid and liquid lipids to incorporate lipophilic actives. The exact differences compared with conventional emulsions or other lipid-delivery systems depend on the formulation and application.
04
Does BioGntx manufacture commercial products?
No. BioGntx focuses on formulation feasibility, R&D-scale prototype development and characterization. Where appropriate, further development, scale-up and manufacturing can be explored with qualified partners.
